Dan Hernandez & Christian Faur @ Monkey Spoon

Went to a set of exhibtions yesterday in Chelsea New York and the 'Monkey Spoon' exhibition at Kim Foster Gallery http://kimfostergallery.com featuring the art of Dan Hernandez & Christian Faur amongst other people.

Dan Hernandez uses a 90s game boy aesthetic and throws that against medieval tryptych panel art to give a contemporary take on an otherwise old technique. In meticulous detail, Hernandez presents a skewed understanding of violence, religion and mythology, enlightened by popular video gaming culture.

Then we had Christian Faur who uses actual crayon tips to create photographic 'pixel' style art which went down really well & sold out at the gallery. It is only when the viewer gets closer that they realize that the pixels are actually crayon tips. In using crayons, Faur builds a bridge between adulthood and childhood that we all can share.
